We are reaching the business end of the World Cup because some of the teams have only one game left. So far, France, Portugal and Brazil are the only teams to book their place in the round of 16 but others will join them on the final day of each group. Qatar also joined South Africa as the only World Cup hosts not to make it out of the group stage. But let’s take a look at who could join these three in the last 16 and what their path will be to get there.
Looking at the tiebreakers, the start is easy and the team with the most points goes ahead. If two teams are tied, it will go to their overall goal difference. If they cannot be separated, then the team that scored the most goals will be the side that will advance. The rules will be amended to only head-to-head competitions between the two teams. So the total score in those games is followed by the goal difference in the head-to-head games and the goals scored. If they do it in detail and can not be divided in the end go to show game series.

A good game plan will see the team with the fewest penalties and the game will continue. As a result, a team loses one point per yellow card, three points for each red card caused by a second yellow card, four points for a straight red card if a red card and -next to yellow, it will count as five points.

- Qatar: Eliminated from the fight for the 16th round.

- Argentina: Could qualify for the round of 16 with a win over Poland. Can qualify for the 16th round by drawing with a Saudi Arabian team drawn or eaten by less than three goals in Mexico. Can win the group with a win and a draw or a loss for Saudi Arabia.
- Saudi Arabia: Could qualify for the round of 16 with a win over Mexico. Can qualify with a draw and a win for Argentina or a win with Argentina winning one more goal. (i.e. Saudi Arabia lose 1-0 and Argentina lose 2-0 will see Saudi Arabia advance
- Mexico: Can qualify for the round of 16 with a win and Poland’s win over Argentina. Can qualify by winning the making the difference in Poland/Argentina while Argentina beat or drew Poland.
