CEO Brian Moynihan said that instead of laying off workers, he will allow some positions to go unfilled when employees voluntarily leave.

CHARLOTTE, NC — One of Charlotte’s largest employers, Bank of America, said it is preparing to trim its workforce to cut costs amid pressures facing the industry.

CEO Brian Moynihan said that instead of laying off workers, he will allow some positions to go unfilled when employees voluntarily leave.

Moynihan said the company will have the ability to reshape its workforce by moving people around and retraining.

The company’s number of employees jumped between about 205,000 and 215,000 in recent years, and right now they are working to lower the number of employees.

“You can handle a headcount if you get in front of it and start working on it,” Brian Moynihan said.
