Diera Walton Named America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State football senior Deira Walton has been named the America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending Sunday, October 30. The award is voted on by a state-wide media panel.

With their sponsorship of the Student-Athlete of the Week, America First Credit Union donates funds directly to support student-athlete scholarships.

The Draper, Utah native started in goal for the Aggies last week and recorded two shutouts on the week as Utah State defeated Boise State, 2-0, to qualify for the Mountain West Tournament before losing, 0-0 ( 19-18) on PKs) in the quarterfinals against San Diego State. Walton compiled 200 minutes of shutout goaltending and recorded 10 saves across the two games. Walton also had three saves in the shootout against the Aztecs.

Walton extended Utah State’s shutout streak to five consecutive shutouts, the longest shutout streak by the team since going six games without allowing a goal in 2011.

This is the third time in her career Walton has been named the USU Student-Athlete of the Week.

Nominees from other sports for USU Student-Athlete of the Week included:
MEN OF THE COUNTRY – Senior Camren Todd (Kaysville, Utah) earned second-team all-Mountain West honors to help lead Utah State to a third-place finish at the Mountain West Championships last week at Jacoby Golf Course in Laramie, Wyoming. Todd completed the eight-mile course in 23 minutes, 58.4 seconds for a ninth-place finish as the Aggies finished with 74 points.

WOMEN’S LANGSLAND – Sophomore Ana Weaver (Stillwater, Minnesota) earned second-team all-Mountain West honors to help lead Utah State to a third-place finish at the Mountain West Championships last week at Jacoby Golf Course in Laramie, Wyoming. Weaver completed the six-mile course in 20 minutes, 24.1 seconds for 13th place as the Aggies, who were predicted to finish fourth, scored 99 points.

GOLF – Sophomore Esteban Jaramillo (Bogota, Colombia) tied for 24th with a 7-over 149, including an even-par 71 in the final round at the Oral Roberts Invitational. USU finished the tournament in 10th place out of 12 teams.

VOLLEYBALL – Junior outside hitter Tatum Stall (Chandler, Ariz.) led Utah State with 37 kills, averaging 4.11 per. set as the Aggies posted a 1-1 Mountain West record last week with a 3-1 road win at Boise State and a 3-2 home loss to UNLV. Stall recorded double-digit kills in both games with 10 at BSU and a career-high 27 against UNLV, to go along with eight digs. Her 27 kills were the most by an Aggie since Kaylie Kamalu-Smith had 30 in 2016. Stall finished the week with 10 digs, two blocks, two assists and two service aces as she hit .321.
