Meraz Ahmed is a freelance event organizer living in Barisal, Barguna. He was looking for another job until he stumbled upon Income on Facebook.

Inkam is a distribution company exclusively for digital products and services that has onboarded promising digital products (learning videos, skill development courses, health services etc.) in the market. The platform allows its users to distribute those products for a sales commission.

“Income’s terms and policies are very easy to understand and convenient. So I registered myself the same day and became an agent of Income,” said Meraz.

At Income, every agent/affiliate who earns commission for marketing another person’s or company’s products is known as a ‘Digital Uddokta’ (Digital Entrepreneur).

“We just want to get new customers for the services [of different companies] They sell on this platform. For example, if I’m tasked with selling digital course content, I’m looking for potential customers around me. When they agree to purchase the course, I send them my customized link through which they can purchase,” Meraz explained, adding, “With every purchase, I get a 10%-15% commission in my account.”

Meraz now earns Tk 2,000 to Tk 2,500 in any given week. He also heads the Digital Marketing team at Barisal.

Because the world is moving towards digitalization and the informal economy of Bangladesh is growing phenomenally. Income saw an opportunity to merge the two to create a service that would benefit everyone in the ecosystem.

Income is open for business to any person (who can act as an agent) or platform (who can act as an associate or partner). For instance, Go Global is an international entry and visa processing platform. They also provide career counseling to students going abroad for higher education.

Imtiaz Bin Habib, Assistant Manager, Business Development, Go Global, explained how their sales have increased since the tie-up with Income.

“Career counseling is our popular service. Earlier, we only marketed it through Facebook and Google ads. These ads definitely gave us a huge reach, but not even 1% of them made it to the actual customer list. On the other hand, Income Agents The reach we get through is almost 100% efficient, which gives us good business,” Imtiaz told The Business Standard.

If income keeps pace with its growth, Imtiaz plans to invest the lion’s share of his company’s marketing spend into income in the coming years.

A void in digital infrastructure

Research by Statistica.com shows that ad spending in Bangladesh’s digital advertising market is projected to reach $305 million this year. Companies are spending more than Rs.1,000 crore every year on digital marketing on Facebook and Google alone to reach their target audience.

“All this money is our money, our people’s money. It’s sad how we give it to global tech giant companies for the sake of marketing. Acknowledging that, we want to build a platform that will enable efficient digital advertising and channel money within the country. ,” said Feroz Uddin Ahmed, COO of Income.

Also, with the increasing demand for digital products and the population migrating online, there is an absence of digital distribution infrastructure for digital products.

“We have a plethora of resale platforms for physical products (Darazz, Amazon, eBay etc.), but the digital distribution market is still untapped,” Feroze explained.

“Through Income, we are not only accelerating people’s access to digital products but also creating income opportunities for people with limited or no income,” said Khalid Hussain, co-founder of Income.
